It is also a visitor information. A very big thank you to the staff who many years ago took in my wheelchair that had been left in the car park opposite as we drove off. They also host a variety of one off exhibitions throughout the year and organise events in and around the town. The volunteers are all excellent and provide a great service. Tony Grant 5 stars Danny Maas 4 stars Small, but i dus learn some stuff. Alexander Farrell 4 Stars Small but perfectly formed with knowledgeable hosts and well displayed artefacts that show this town's interesting history. While we were there we were shown aerial photography outlining a Pictish settlement which will hopefully form part of a future exhibit about the prehistory of the local area. Paul Kipling 4 Stars Great little place Graeme McDonald 3 Stars weeks ago Mr Taylor Bell 5 Stars Val Fisher 4 Stars Bill Osborne 5 Stars Niall Stewart 5 Stars Wendy Jones 3 Stars Paula Fisher 5 Stars Good little place to get a bit of history, sensible entry fee that helps to keep the place going, worth a visit. Chris Townsend 5 Stars Interesting collections, well-laid out. Impressive for a small museum. Sandy MacLure 5 Stars We had a very interesting visit to Grantown museum. A collection of items which tells the story of a planned Highland town. Of particular interest when we were there was the collection of Grant portraits. The organisers should be proud to their achievements.@A.R.MacLure Country Music by Dode 4 Stars Nice and helpful... lovely town with PLENTY shops, eateries etc Anne MacDonald 5 Stars Lovely Museum in this small town, a nice find, with interesting history, well worth a visit John Coles 4 Stars This is a high quality museum. We have enjoyed special exhibitions there as well as permanent displays about the history of the area. The volunteer staff are always helpful and welcoming. Faymar_12 4 stars 10 Oct 2019 Interesting Visit. Had a lovely time here in the Museum, very interesting, finding all about the area, wildlife and history. There is an area where you can try on some of the clothing of yesteryear, great fun, I’m not posting the photos! Well worth a visit. 242corab 5 Stars 23 Sep 2019 never expected it to be this good! what a delightful museum this is run by volunteers. Tells the story of Speyside, Grantown itself and loads of other things. Loved the headphone stories, to be honest never expected it to be this professional! the best was the story about Alexander Graham Bell, you had to lift the receiver of a really old, very heavy, phone to hear the story. the exhibition about our Canadian cousins was very informative. little shop with high quality items. entrance fee is 4£ but really worth it. Rossergruffydd 3 Stars 10 Sep 2019 Hard to Find on Foot, Modern Interior and Electronic Devices that do Work Beware the map at the 'Square' (it's actually oblong) that is upside down so as to confuse visitors, however the cast iron signs, etc point in the right direction. The museum lies behind the town centre buildings and can be spotted by it's wooden belltower. You get a friendly greeting and before you ask, it's not free. Well worth the price of the 'donation' though and it has a good wee shop with local books for sale. The local history area is quite small and limited in artifacts but tells the story well - I liked the clarsach, which you are invited to strum. A Scots in Canada exhibition was on in a well presented hall, however it was mostly a reading exercise with a video booth and very few artifacts. A lot of effort to display, however lacking in little in appeal to visitors. The various electronic devices were working which is unusual. Run by volunteers who seemed knowledgeable and helpful if lacking a little in warmth in the case of one of the staff. the-blackisler 5 Stars 18 Jul 2019 Very interesting visit A warm welcome when we entered the building with the TV switched on for us and then left to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere at our own pace The history of the Hudson Bay Company was very enlightening, not a lot on display but enough to whet the appetite. Definitely a museum to visit. drewbrownimages Aberdeen, United Kingdom 5 Stars Worth a Visit A great place to learn about the history of Grantown. Learned few new things and the ups and downs of the area. Luckily enough it's on an up just now. Date of experience: June 2019 U8982CDkarenm Kirkwall, United Kingdom 5 Stars Excellent Small Museum run by volunteers This small museum is packed with information & displays about the Grants & how the local area & town were established. There is interactive listening points to confirm the details of the displays. Look out for the clock tower outside. Date of experience: June 2019 Josquine Somerset UK 5 Stars Small but perfectly formed An excellent display of the town's interesting history, well set out and labelled. A highlight for me was the chance to play the clarsach, a small harp. Date of experience: May 2019 Chrissie E Exeter, United Kingdom 3 Stars A good place on a rainy day This is not a very big museum; the current exhibition relates the origin and history of the town , with iPad cameos of members of the Ogilvy- Grant family. A good place to spend a little time if it's raining but not really a must. Good well stocked shop, friendly staff, parking nearby and very good disabled access into the museum. Date of experience: May 2019 Cheri M Pflugerville, Texas 5 Stars See it! If you have Grant ancestry like I do, this museum is an absolute MUST see. If you don't it's still well worth the modest entrance fee to see the development of planned city Grantown-on-Spey. And the docents who are the quiet and intelligent backbone of this museum. They are genuinely interested in their museum and of any ancestor hunting visitors! Date of experience: May 2019 dowkaren65 Driffield, UK 5 Stars Small but perfectly formed This is a splendid little museum that perfectly balances national and local social history with interesting artefacts and attractive information boards suitable for all ages. We spent a very happy couple of hours here and the staff were delightful, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and very helpful. The museum is also beautifully maintained and there is none of that run down, a bit tacky and stuff not working that often happens in small local museums. An excellent example of it’s type and well worth a visit. There was also a very good photography exhibition on display. Date of experience: May 2019 WillStaffordshire Staffordshire 5 Stars Small but good As I say it's small but gives sufficient information about the area and its history. The attached information centre is good and the staff very friendly and helpful. Date of experience: April 2019 |
