Capt. Frank C Hendry OBE MCF.C
Hendry wrote many maritime novels under the name Shalimar. He had a distinguished career at sea and was a Rangoon pilot for some years. He joined the Indian Army and was awarded the Military Cross for bravery in commanding a paddle steamer in the Tigris during the WW1 Mesopotamia (Iraq) campaign. He retired to write in Grantown and his house which he renamed ‘Shalimar’ is in Woodside Avenue. He published sea faring stories in Blackwoods magazine and went on to write many popular books.
