The Museum holds Old Parish Registers of births, marriages and deaths up to 31st December 1854, and Census Returns from 1841 – 1891, for the parishes of Abernethy, Cromdale, Duthill and Inverallan and Kincardine on Microfiche, along with back numbers of the Strathspey and Badenoch Herald.

The local graveyard and cemetery records are no longer available in Grantown-on-Spey. These archives can now be accessed at Kilvean Cemetery and Crematorium, Inverness. We do however have copies of the inscriptions from all the graveyards in Strathspey available for inspection.

The Valuation Rolls for Grantown and district from 1890 are available in the Museum archive and are a good source of information about owners, occupiers and tenants of properties and businesses, complementing the census records.

Our volunteers have excellent knowledge of the location of farms and townships in the Strathspey, many of which survive to this day and of the traditional local names.  Statutory records of births, marriages and deaths post 1855 and the 1901 and 1911 census records may be viewed online.
